A/N:
This will probably be the last thing I post for a good long while... I go back
to school on January 15 (who the hell thought a Thursday was a good day to
start school?). Yeah, all my fun is over... stupid school.
Warnings:
Supernatural-ish... character death... and... Uh.... tissue alert! Also, it’s
really short and I didn’t feel like checking the grammar.
Disclaimer:
Ok, the characters don’t belong to me. Hilde and Duo belong to Sunrise, Sotsu
Agency and Bandai. The song I used for this song is called My Last Breath
is owned and performed by Evanescence, who, might I add, are the best at
writing and performing sad, depressing, angsty songs! This is my second songfic
with one of their songs. Read the lyrics of this song carefully or listen and
pay attention to the lyrics.
Last Breath
Hold on to me love
You know I can’t stay long
All I wanted to say was I love you and I’m not afraid
Can you hear me?
Can you feel me in your arms?
Duo
sighed as he held Hilde’s pale, lukewarm hand in his much larger one. The tears
he’d been trying to hold back starting rolling down his cheeks and his chin
trembled. His sniffles made Hilde turn her eyes towards him. Her stared became
tender as she gazed at him. Tears pooled in her own eyes as she took in a
shallow and shaky breath, knowing it might very well be her last.
Duo’s
heart broke at the sound of her breathing, knowing every single minute that
passed was painful for her, but he was unwilling to let her go. He did not wish
to prolong her pain any longer but knew that he would be alone forever when her
pain finally ended.
With
another painful breath Hilde spoke to him. “Duo? Duo, we don’t... I don’t have
much time left Duo. And the only thing I regret is leaving you like this. I’m
not afraid of dying, Duo, I’m much more afraid of being without you,” she said
in an almost whisper. “But I’m not afraid, it’s just my time now. I love you,
Duo, never forget that.”
His
hand tightened around hers, but he didn’t say anything. All he could do was lay
on the bed next to her and hold her in his arms. He knew it would probably be
the last time he held her like his, the last time he would feel her warmth next
to his, and knowing this made it sweet torture for him.
Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight
He
didn’t know when exactly he’d fallen asleep, but he knew he was asleep. And he
was dreaming. There was white all over and he couldn’t see anything but the
brightness of the white room, or wherever he was. Am I dead? he thought for a
second. His question lingered in his mind for a second before a painful memory
came crashing back. No, he wasn’t dead, but Hilde was dying. She was sick in
the hospital and she was dying, slowly but surely.
His
heart constricted painfully suddenly when he noticed a presence before him. He
couldn’t really see it but it was coming closer. Realization suddenly hit him
when the inky black hair became visible to him and the slender woman took
shape.
“Hilde,”
he whispered painfully. Tears started to roll down his face once again at the
sight of her. It was Hilde, as she’d been a few months ago before her health
had started to deteriorate. Before she’d gotten really sick.
She
smiled at him, the sweetest most beautiful smiled she could have given him.
“Don’t worry about me anymore, darling. And when the time comes, Duo, I want
you to come find me. But not before the time comes, love,” she said and reached
out to wipe tears away from his eyes.
I’ll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
I know you hear me
I can taste it in your tears
Hilde
leaned towards him and brushed her lips against his forehead in a feather-like
kiss. “I’m holding my breath, Duo because I want to take your scent with me
where I’m going. And all the memories we made together are here,” she said
motioning to her heart. “My life ends here, our lives together end tonight, but
all those memories, even the unhappy ones, will stay with us because we love
each other, Duo.”
Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight
Duo
sobbed. “But why you, Hilde? Why us?” he said brokenly. “Why did this happen to
us? We’re so young, we have our whole lives ahead of us! Why not somebody
else?”
“Shh,
Duo. I don’t wish this upon anybody else, Duo. You shouldn’t either. We had a
happy life together, Duo, even if it wasn’t a long one. We loved each other to
the fullest and we lived our lives to the fullest together. Can you see how
good God was to us by giving us that time? That short, but wonderful time? We
were happy and that’s all that matters.”
Closing your eyes to disappear
You pray your dreams will leave you here
But still you wake and know the truth
No one’s there
“I
don’t want you to go, Hilde! I can’t let you go!”
“It’s
not up to you or me Duo. We don’t choose when we die Duo, but we do choose how
we live our lives when our loved ones depart. And I want you to be happy, Duo.
I don’t want you to be alone or depressed. I want to leave only with happy
memories of me, not the sad memories of me being sick. Just remember how much
we loved each other. You’ll be fine, Duo. But now I must go, it’s time for me
to go. I love you Duo, and I’ll miss you. You’re the best thing that ever
happened to me.” Hilde brushed her warm lips against his.
Say goodnight
Don’t be afraid
Calling me, calling me as you fade to black
“Hilde!
Hilde please don’t go! Please! HILDE!” Duo screamed. The bright light started
to fade, slowly turning into gray and eventually into black.
(Say goodnight)
Holding my last breath
(Don’t be afraid)
Safe inside myself
(Calling me, calling me)
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight
Duo
was startled awake by the loud beeping noise of the heart monitor that was
attached to Hilde. The looked over at it, already knowing that it had
flat-lined. The annoying, high pitched sound was like a sadistic requiem of
Hilde’s death. He looked down at the woman in his arms and sobbed his sorrow
into her now lifeless shoulder.
Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight
The
End...
